Most everyone has a favorite sport group. A sport group can be one that is professional, amateur or even a local group that just plays on the weekends. Any type of sport can be played by a sports group. Football is one of the more popular sports. Many people also like basketball and baseball. Soccer has become a more popular sport in the United States lately as well as other sports like rugby and lacrosse. Tennis was once seen as a sport for the rich, but now people of all financial backgrounds play tennis.

Professional sport groups in the United States entertain millions of fans each year. Championship games, like the Super Bowl, draw large crowds both in person and on television. Companies pay high prices for commercials during the Super Bowl because they know so many people are going to be watching. Some people even tune in just to see the commercials now. Baseball has a championship, but it can consist of up to seven games. The World Series is a competition by two sports groups that is won by the team that wins the best four out of seven games. This can be done by one team winning the first four games, although that rarely happens. Usually each team wins a number of games, but the final game - the one that will determine who the world champion of baseball is - is usually very exciting. Internationally, the world tunes in to watch the World Cup, perhaps the largest event for sports groups in the world. Fans have been known to be so passionate about their sport groups, especially soccer fans, that riots have broken out during games. Sometimes officials, who fans think have made a bad call, have to be escorted off the field by police to keep the fans at bay.
